News South Ockendon Dojo

Great news for South Ockendon students!

South Ockendon classes will be resuming at the regular location at the Royal British Legion from Friday 6th February and as thanks for being so incredibly patient and general fantastic during the last few weeks whilst we’ve had hall difficulties, we are giving all students who normally train at South Ockendon dojo a free upgrade to Gold membership for the whole of February.

This means that the students named below have unlimited training for a whole month as well as up to 25% discount on club events and equipment. If you missed out on any classes due to the venue changes the lessons will have rolled over for use in February and we hope that you take full advantage of the unlimited classes that are now available to you as well at no extra cost.

Yours in karate

South Ockendon dojo update

Dojo floor update!

We have spoken with the hall who have told us that they are waiting on the council who are waiting for the loss adjuster’s report before they can give the go ahead to start repairs. They are hoping to have an answer by Tuesday 27th January so keep your fingers crossed

Once they get the all clear to begin repairs then it will be fixed in a day at the most and then we can go straight in and resume our classes. Until then though we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. Mondays can continue temporarily at West Thurrock dojo but we have not yet been able to find an available venue for Fridays. We’re still searching so check back regularly for updates.

I’m still calling every hall I can think of so that we can run class on Friday, here’s the current situation.

As of Friday 23rd January @ 4.50pm

UNAVAILABLE HALLS

• North Stifford Village Hall: Can’t afford it (£70 to hire for the night)

• Ormiston Park Academy: Fully booked

• Ockendon Academy: Closes at 8pm

• Belhus Park Golf Club & Leisure Centre: Classes already on during the time we need

• Aveley Public Hall: Unavailable

• Holy Cross Church Hall: Hall closed

• South Ockendon Village Hall: Slippery floor. Not safe for our classes unless everyone wears trainers.

• Belhus Village Hall: Fully booked)

• Grays & West Thurrock Dojos: Fully booked

• Culver Centre: Closes at 5.30pm on Fridays

• Bonnygate Primary School: Needs permission from headteacher who isn’t in until next week

• Brandon Groves Community Centre: £100 to hire for the night or £50 with no heating!

• Aveley Village Social Club: No hall there.

• Dilkes Primary School: They don’t hire out their hall.

• Somers Heath Primary School: They don’t hire out their hall.

• Benyon Primary School: They don’t hire out their hall.

• Aveley Primary School: They don’t hire out their hall.

• Belhus Scout Hall, Faymore Gardens: Fully booked

• Scout Hall, Tamarisk Road: Not allowed to hire out the hall (council policy for their lease)

• Blackshots Leisure Centre: Main studio already booked, other studio way too small.

NO ANSWER/REPLY FROM THESE HALLS YET

• Aveley Village Hall: Can’t find a phone number

• All Saints Church Hall: No answer/reply

• Shaw Primary School: Checking with the deputy head and getting back to me shortly (Friday 23rd). No reply as of 4.50pm.

If anyone knows of any other halls that might be available at short notice or if you’re able to reach the halls I’ve not then please let me know.

Regards

Sensei Richard
