The training syllabus for Seitou Ryu Karate® is set and centralised by the experience of the senior instructors. The syllabus has been developed so that all students follow the same training pattern and develop and progress in rank in a structured manner.

A student must complete a minimum time on each grade as well as reaching the required standards in kihon (basics) before being allowed to attempt their next belt. For each belt a student is tested on a selection of pre-set drills and must also perform a kata (form). Although some kata are repeated throughout the higher kyu grades, students must show an understanding of these kata through demonstration of applications (bunkai). For black belt levels a student must perform several kata, as well as their applications. For more information about kata in Seitou Ryu Karate® click here. Below is the belt system for Seitou Ryu Karate® (based on a student who trains 2-3 times a week, and has an average level of fitness and co-ordination).
